Steve turns the barrels on a lathe using the following woods for the barrels:

   - Walnut

   - Spalted Maple

   - Cherry

   - Redwood Burl

    -Big Leaf Maple Burl

The eyepieces are usually made with a contrasting wood to the barrel.  For instance, for the Spalted Maple barrel, a walnut eyepiece is used.  The combinations for the woods can be special ordered.
